Made you look - The Brief

The Brief  In an age where everything is continually evolving, brands  turn to designers to refresh their image. Starbucks and Pepsi have continually developed their branding, refining the logo several times. This brief asks you to generate new branding for one of the companies listed.  Your target audience research should heavily inform your design decisions and you should justify any ideas you have in relation to these people.  You must generate a minimum  of three items from the second  list below to show off your brand and style ideas. In order to pitch your design concept to the client a presentation board should show off your design ideas.  The designs should really reflect the users and the way the customers interact with and feels about the brand. All designs will require an appropriate logo and other promotional items, these should be suitable chosen for the company selected.  Clients-  Airbnb - u...

Starbucks - Research

Mind map/collage   Below is a link to my Pinterest board on Starbucks.  https://www.pinterest.co.uk/jessicaj0095/starbucks/ Case study What are the values of Starbucks ? Starbucks is a multi- billionaire company that wants to create a clear culture of warmth and belonging, where everyone is welcome and 'acting with courage, challenging the status quo.' I feel that this is what makes this company so successful and popular. Never before in the history of coffee shops in America, has there been a coffee shop like Starbucks. It always challenges conventions and encourages people to break the 'status quo' Where does the logo come from?  The company 'Starbucks' Is named after a character in the novel ' Moby Dick'. Starbuck. To follow this nautical theme, they decided to make the Logo a siren. A siren is a very beautiful mermaid like creature that is known in norse myth to lure men at sea and sinking their ships on rocks. This logo is genius an...

Google - Client Profile

Client Profile   Google is a massive search engine known all around the world. It was founded by Larry Page and Sergi Brin in September 1998. Google was a revelation in how the internet was seen in the late 90s into the early 2000s. The current CEO is now Sundar Pichai who was made CEO of this huge organisation in 2015. He is a 45 year old Indian American business executive with a net worth of $1.2 billion.  Google is not only a search engine. It is also Gmail, Calendar, google plus, Hangouts, maps and many, many more. With the rise of mobile phones and social media over the last ten years, Google has had to adapt to meet the consumers need for organisation and convenience on their mobile phones. This includes voice recognition and search. I think that this is a good thing and allows people to use their mobile phones in a shorter time, leaving time for other things.  Google occasionally changes their Logo on special days or ...

Google - Main Competitors

Google   As many big companies in the world, google has many competitors that they have to establish themselves away from and successfully reel in new consumers everyday. For google these are Bing and Yahoo. Statistically, Google gets 90.22% of visits where as Yahoo gets 2.52% and Bing gets 6.32%. Although these figures are far apart, (Google reigns highest in the world) They still, like any brand, Had to establish what their Niche was or what made them stand out above Yahoo and Bing. In the beginning they were aiming at very few people because of the lack of interest. now their target audience is everybody. Yahoo is one of google's main competitor and in the next post i will explore them in more detail. However, another company, called Amazon is another main competitor and i will also explore and research into them in another post.

Amazon - Analysis

Amazon  Amazon is an American company that was founded in 1994 by Jeff Bezos in Seattle, Washington. They sell everything from clothing to electronics all online. They offer services like Amazon Prime which allows the customers to get their items delivered the very next day, costing about £10.00 a month, boosting their profits to have a net worth of over $100 billion altogether. Below is a graph of Amazon's age distribution in the US. I think that this is very accurate because the majority of people using Amazon will have grown up using the internet. However their is a constant increase in the elderly using shopping sites like amazon and eBay because it is easier to get things delivered to their door rather than collecting it from the shops. Their target audience Like google would be anyone from young to old. To cater to these demographics, Amazon has had to have a wide range of products that relate to everyone of their target audience. From electronics to fashion, Amaz...

Bing - Analysis

Bing Bing is Google's main competitor as I have said, Bing gets approximately 6% of uses compared to Google's 90%. This looks like a big difference, but when you compare it to Yahoo's 2% it is alot. Bing's Logo has developed a lot over the past ten years. They started off with a blue and yellow logo that holds a serif font that curves around to give a friendly look. Then they had an all yellow logo with a more relaxed font and a b symbol. Now, the more recent one is a green version of the yellow one but with a capital B. I like the original and I do not think that they needed to change the logo as much as they have.        In the 2009 logo, there is a yellow dot above the i. It could connote light or something actually going 'BING'   Bing's ETHOS is to create a new infrastructure with a goal of delivering a faster and slightly more relevant search result. After never really using Bing, I dont really think that it is very good but The branding an...

Google - Logo and Colour analysis

C o l o u r analysis In the design process, it is natural to do a colour analysis. This is because every colour from Blue to Red will have a different meaning whether it be from subconscious feeling to an obvious connection with something. As an example, below is a colour chart that shows the connotations between the colour spectrum. I made the above chart using Adobe Illustrator.  Now if i apply this to the Google logo. Google has four colours Green, Blue, Yellow and Red. Red could connote a sense of excitement and green could connote safety and peace. Yellow isn't on the chart but it could evoke a sense of light and warmth. Lastly, Blue is peace, calmness and confidence. I like this because it covers all bases like they do with their Target Audience.

Google rebrand - Initial Ideas

Initial Ideas. I have known since I started this project that I wanted to the Google re-brand brief because I knew that it was going to be challenging and stretch my knowledge to create something digital rather than print. I also know that I would need to do a web banner, website interface and a direct mail. which is perfect in what I want to do to stretch my abilities. Below is a few sketches of ideas. I will use my Wacom Intuos pro s to create these digitally. This is a Gif I have made for an idea i had. This uses Illustrator to create the vectors and photoshop for the Animation. It is only an initial idea and has a long way to go but i think that it will be a great idea and concept for a website ad banner and an e-shot.  I have created these design on illustrator and i think they are a great concept but they do not stand out like i want them to. I think i will develop the triangles further and maybe make them into rectangles tho keep ...

Target Audience

Target Audience  It is very important to have a clear understanding of your target audience so that you can understand what they want in terms of style and convenience.  Google's target audience is everybody. This makes this hard but also very easy to create a brand for. I do think however that it will be very hard to create a mood board for Goggle's target audience, as they have such a broad target audience. Instead, I will look at what the most things search on google are and look at their target audience's. For example, Facebook will be aimed at a broad range of people, but will have to have restrictions on age filters, so they will be over 13 and below 35. This is because anyone over the age of 35 will not have grown up around computers and their benefits. Although 95% of them will be on Facebook, it is more than likely that people under 35 will be on Facebook and use it on a regular basis. It will be the same for other social media platforms, like; twitter, Insta...
